  • From Grief to Confidence: My Transformative Facelift Journey at VLIF with Dr. Shim

  • When I went through depression after my husband passed away almost a year ago, I lost weight which caused the prominence of my facial sagging. A few years back, a US plastic surgeon did some mini-liposuction work on my face and neck (but no lift) which made matters worse since I ended up with a turkey neck after the weight loss. Looking at myself in the mirror was making me even sadder. Then I remembered what my husband used to tell me, do whatever makes you happy. So with that, I have decided it was time for that much awaited facelift/necklift! But where do I go? Who do I trust? I was hesitant to go to another local plastic surgeon (US).

One day, my daughter mentioned about the Korea medical tourism. Inspired with this information and after watching YouTube videos, I learned about the VLIF Plastic Surgery Clinic! What interest me the most about VLIF is the fact that they specialize on Face/Neck lifts, and with zero medical accidents. From the moment I reached out to them via Whatsapp (as compared to a few others), I knew I was dealing with the clinic that I could trust and would like to work with.

I’m writing this review, 7 days post-op, so as you can see I am a living proof that all went well during my surgery. First, let me walk you through my experience at VLif Plastic Surgery Clinic in Gangnam, South Korea. The doctor that I chose was Dr. Shim, he’s the infamous VLif doctor who operated on his mom. I asked him to pretend he was operating on his mom again and make me as pretty and young! He’s such a sweet and talented doctor. All their doctors are amazing and talented so you can’t go wrong with whoever you choose. Their facility is top notch, very clean, with friendly and courteous staff, with modern equipment that are focused on face/neck lift surgeries and post care (de-swelling, scar management). Right after surgery, my English speaking coordinator Amy stayed by my side until I woke up from the sedation. I never felt more safe and taken care of knowing I was being monitored every step of the way.

How did I manage with the language barrier? VLIF has English speaking coordinators. I love Bella and Amy! I want to mention that I came to have the procedures done in Korea, alone. I also didn’t go through any medical tourism agency since I have done most of the research so I contacted VLIF directly (my guess is I received a better deal). With Bella and Amy’s help, everything went according to plan. They gave me a list of pre op and post op instructions. I stayed at their recommended hotel. They helped me get back to my hotel the day of the surgery. Bella and Amy basically checked on me, set up my post op appointments, took turns staying by my side during my follow up appointments, and made me feel the most important person in the room (even though I knew they have other patients to assist). The services I have received at VLIF is one of the best I have experienced in Korea and other places in the world.

For now, I am still waiting for the bruising and swelling to go down. VLIF has been providing de-swelling treatments to help expedite since I am leaving for the US in a few days. I am so excited to see what my face will look like a few months from now though. Overall, I didn’t feel any pain right after the surgery. Already, I can see and feel the stretching on my face and neck and the sagging on my face and neck gone.

I hope this review gets to inspire women in their 60’s or younger/older. I’m a Filipino American, aged 61, based in California. If you’re on the fence about going to Korea to get your facelift done, I can tell you I felt I can trust VLIF even before I flew out here. When I met with my doctor and coordinators in person and saw the VLIF facility, I knew I made the right choice! Thanks to Dr. Shim, Bella, Amy, and the nurses and rest of the staff at VLIF! You’re all amazing!
